Annual and Special Meetings

Section 3 of the legislation which created the Hopkins Hill Fire District provides for a mandatory Annual Meeting and for special meeting as required. Provided is a brief overview of those provisions.

Annual Meeting:

  • Annual election of Executive Committee is held at this meeting 
  • Meeting is held on the first Saturday of May at 7:00 p.m. at the fire station or other place as may be designated
  • A quorum of 20 qualified voters of the district is required
  • Seven days advance notice, posted in three or more public places, is required
  • Notices must be signed by at least five qualified voters of the district
  • Seven days advance notice must be published in a Kent county newspaper
  • Other conditions as may be required by the By-Laws of the district or the laws of the State of RI
Special Meetings:
  • Special Meetings may be called by the Executive Committee or by written application by twenty qualified voters of the district.
  • Only the business specified in the written application or has otherwise been placed on the agenda may be discussed
  • No Special Meeting may be called without the consent of the Executive Committee, for any topic which had been discussed at any meeting within the previous six months
  • No Special Meeting may be called without the consent of the Executive Committee to amend the budget approved at the most recent annual meeting
  • A quorum of 20 qualified voters of the district is required
  • Seven days advance notice, posted in three or more public places, is required
  • Notices must be signed by at least five qualified voters of the district
  • Seven days advance notice must be published in a Kent county newspaper
  • Other conditions as may be required by the By-Laws of the district or the laws of the State of RI
