RAD 57

In January of 08 Hopkins Hill was the first Department in Coventry to get a Masimo RAD 57 CO - Oximeter which reads the oxygen levels in the blood stream as well as Carbon Monoxide. It is noninvasive using a probe on the finger and give an accurate reading, before having this unit we had no way of knowing the CO level a person had, we could only go on signs and symptoms the patient displayed ( head ach, nausea, flu like symptoms). In the first week and a half of having the RAD 57 Hopkins Hill had a patient that had no signs and symptoms of CO, but the unit showed a level of 12, the patient was transported to the Hospital and was treated for CO poisoning.
